Foreigner |
A foreigner who has completed all educational courses abroad. |
A person who has completed all educational courses equivalent to elementary, middle, and high school at a school located abroad and has a score of level 3 or higher on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK/TOPIK IBT). |
Applicants whose parents and themselves are all foreign nationals |
[Both parents and the applicant] must be foreigners who acquired foreign citizenship before the applicant's high school enrollment date and have a score of level 3 or higher on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK/TOPIK IBT). |
North Korean Defectors |
Those who have been officially designated as recipients of protection under the [Act on the Protection and Settlement Support of North Korean Defectors]. |
Those who have [high school graduation (expected) or equivalent qualifications]. |
- In cases where the number of years of enrollment is insufficient due to differences in the school system with a foreign school or where enrollment semesters overlap, exceptions are allowed within the scope of one semester.
- If the school system in the relevant country allows for skipping grades or early graduation under its educational curriculum laws, etc., and supporting documents (school-issued statement of reason, related regulations, etc.) are submitted, recognition is granted even if the total enrollment period is insufficient.
c. Foreign School Recognition Criteria
- "Foreign school" means a school located in a foreign country, and only schools recognized for prescribed academic ability under the relevant laws of that country are recognized (foreign schools located in Korea are not recognized).
- The form of foreign schools is limited to regular elementary, middle, and high schools that are recognized as having prescribed academic ability under the educational relations laws of the relevant country, and educational institutions such as kindergartens, language training centers, and academic qualifications such as domestic and foreign qualification examinations, homeschooling, and cyber learning are not recognized.
